Privacy policy

Registered name: Ramswood Nurseries Limited, trading as Ramswood Nurseries. We are the controller of your personal data: we decide how it is used. This privacy notice tells you what to expect us to do with your personal information.

Last updated 26 October 2026. We wrote it from how the site really works and checked what a visit loads in a clean browser on .

Contact details

What information we collect, use, and why

We collect or use the following information to answer enquiries, give quotes, provide goods and services, including delivery, and keep this website working.

When you send an enquiry

If you use an enquiry form, you send us your name, email address, phone number and message, and any planting schedule or list you attach. The trade and landscaping forms ask for more: your company and your role, the project's name, its postcode, size and type, whether you want it installed, your budget and timing, and what you need. Each form passes them straight to our inbox through Resend, an email delivery service. This website keeps no copy: there is no database behind it. Resend keeps a record of each email it sends for us, which we can see in our account. We use what you send to reply to you and, if you ask, to give you a price. We need a way to reply, so the forms ask for your contact details.

To stop the forms being used to send the same thing over and over, the site allows 5 enquiries from one internet address in 10 minutes. To count them it keeps the address in the server's memory only. It is never saved to a disk or a database.

If an enquiry turns into an order or a job

We keep the names, contact details and addresses we need to quote, deliver, invoice and keep our accounts. This site takes no payments and has no shop.

When you visit the site

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel keeps standard server logs of each request, including the internet address it came from, your browser and device type, the page asked for and the time.

We count visits with GoatCounter, a counter that does not follow you around the web. When a page opens, your browser tells GoatCounter the page you looked at, its title, the page you came from, your screen width and your browser type. To tell one visit from another it uses your internet address and browser type, holds that only in its memory for up to 8 hours, and never stores your address. We also count how many times the phone number or email address is tapped, from your browser, and how many enquiries are sent, from our server. Those counts hold which page or form it was, never what you typed.

Every page loads Google Tag Manager from www.googletagmanager.com. It lets us add tools to the site, such as Google Analytics, without changing the site itself. The only things this site tells it are that an enquiry was sent or the phone number or email address was tapped, and which part of the site that happened on. Nothing you type is passed to it. Like any site it loads from, Google sees your internet address and browser type.

Analytics and advertising

Google Analytics shows us how the site is used. Google Ads and Meta advertising tools record which adverts led to a visit or an enquiry, and may show our adverts to people who have visited. The cookies they set are listed under cookies below. We do not sell your information, and we do not make decisions about you by automated means.

Lawful bases and data protection rights

Under UK data protection law, we must have a “lawful basis” for collecting and using your personal information. There is a list of possible lawful bases in the UK GDPR. You can find out more about lawful bases on the ICO's website.

Which lawful basis we rely on may affect your data protection rights, which are set out in brief below. You can find out more about your data protection rights and the exemptions which may apply on the ICO's website.

  • Your right of access: you have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. You can request other information such as details about where we get personal information from and who we share personal information with. There are some exemptions which means you may not receive all the information you ask for.
  • Your right to rectification: you have the right to ask us to correct or delete personal information you think is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Your right to erasure: you have the right to ask us to delete your personal information.
  • Your right to restriction of processing: you have the right to ask us to limit how we can use your personal information.
  • Your right to object to processing: you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data.
  • Your right to data portability: you have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you.
  • Your right to withdraw consent: when we use consent as our lawful basis you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

If you make a request, we must respond to you without undue delay and in any event within one month. To make a data protection rights request, please contact us using the contact details at the top of this privacy notice.

Our lawful bases for the collection and use of your data

  • Consent: we have permission from you after we gave you all the relevant information. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to object. To be clear, you do have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Contract: we have to collect or use the information so we can enter into or carry out a contract with you. All of your data protection rights may apply except the right to object.
  • Legal obligation: we have to collect or use your information so we can comply with the law. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to erasure, the right to object and the right to data portability.
  • Legitimate interests: we're collecting or using your information because it benefits you, our organisation or someone else, without causing an undue risk of harm to anyone. All of your data protection rights may apply, except the right to portability.

We have a legitimate interest in responding to customer and trade enquiries, providing quotations, managing business relationships, improving our website and services, and promoting our garden centre, landscaping and trade supply services. We use relevant personal information for these purposes where necessary and proportionate, taking into account individuals' privacy rights and expectations. We do not use legitimate interests as a substitute for consent where consent is legally required.

Which basis we rely on for each use:

  • Replying to enquiries and giving quotes: taking steps before a contract, at your request, and our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us.
  • Orders, jobs and our accounts: contract, and our legal obligation to keep tax and business records.
  • Server logs and our visit counter: legitimate interests, to keep the site working and safe and to see which pages help people.
  • Google Analytics and advertising tools: consent, which you give or refuse in our cookie banner.

For more information on our use of legitimate interests as a lawful basis you can contact us using the contact details set out above.

Where we get personal information from

  • Directly from you: when you send an enquiry, ring, email or visit us, and from your browser when you open a page (the server logs and visit counts above).
  • From the tools on our website, if you accept cookies: Google Analytics, and the advertising tools of Google and Meta, which report visits, the device and browser used, and which adverts led to them.

How long we keep information

  • Enquiries that do not lead to work: 2 years from our last contact, then deleted.
  • Orders, quotes we act on and invoices: 6 years after the end of the tax year they belong to, as the law requires.
  • Resend's record of each enquiry email it delivers: 30 days.
  • Server logs: a short period set by our host.
  • Google Analytics data: 14 months.
  • Your cookie choice: 6 months, then we ask again.

For more information on how long we store your personal information or the criteria we use to determine this please contact us using the details provided above.

Who we share information with

Data processors

These organisations act only on our instructions.

  • Resend (email delivery service, United States). This data processor does the following activities for us: delivers the enquiry forms on our website to our inbox. It handles the name, email address, phone number, message and any project details you type in, and keeps a record of each email it sends.
  • Vercel (website hosting, United States). This data processor does the following activities for us: hosts our website. Its servers record each visit's internet address, the page asked for and the time, to keep the site working and secure.
  • AOL (email inbox, part of Yahoo). This data processor does the following activities for us: holds our email inbox, where your enquiries and emails to us arrive and are kept.
  • GoatCounter (visit counter, Ireland). This data processor does the following activities for us: counts visits to each page, and taps on our phone number and email address. It sets no cookie.
  • Google (Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics, United States). This data processor does the following activities for us: Tag Manager loads on every page and lets us add tools without changing the site. Google Analytics shows us how the site is used. Google handles both for us under its data processing terms.

Others we share personal information with

  • Google Ads and Meta (advertising on Facebook and Instagram), if you accept advertising cookies. They receive details of visits and advert clicks from your browser and use them for their own purposes as well as ours: to measure our adverts, to show them to people who may be interested, and to build audiences. They are responsible for that use under their own privacy policies.
  • HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), and any other public body the law requires us to tell. We share information about orders and invoices only where the law requires it.

What your browser contacts when you visit

Until you make a choice in our cookie banner, opening any page here makes your browser contact these, and nothing else:

  • Cookiebot (cookiebot.com)
  • GoatCounter (goatcounter.com)
  • Google Analytics (google-analytics.com)
  • This website
  • Google Tag Manager (www.googletagmanager.com)

The links to the Information Commissioner's Office, Apple Maps, Facebook, Google and Instagram take you to those sites. Nothing from them loads on this site, and following one sets nothing here.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as tracking pixels and tags, do the same job in other ways.

Until you accept cookies, the pages on this site set no cookie and put nothing in your browser's storage. GoatCounter, our visit counter, sets no cookie and stores nothing in your browser.

  • Tag Manager loads Google Analytics, a Google tool that counts visits, with consent set to denied until you choose, so even before you choose your browser contacts google-analytics.com on every page; no cookie is set and nothing is stored (the check above shows none). If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_<id>, each kept for two years. They let it tell one visitor from another and one visit from the next. If you refuse, no cookie is set and Google Analytics gets only those cookieless requests.
  • If you accept analytics cookies, Tag Manager also loads Hotjar, a tool that shows us how people use our pages, such as where they click and how far they scroll. Hotjar sets its own cookies and uses this information under its own privacy policy. If you refuse, Hotjar does not run.
  • Google Ads and Meta set their own cookies and use tracking pixels to show which adverts led to a visit or an enquiry and to show our adverts to people who have visited. They use this information under their own privacy policies.

Our cookie banner is provided by Cookiebot, from Usercentrics, through Tag Manager, so your browser also contacts cookiebot.com to show it. When you make a choice, Cookiebot saves it in a cookie called CookieConsent, even if you say no, so we do not ask again on every page.

When you first visit, we ask whether you are happy for us to use analytics and advertising cookies. Nothing of that kind runs until you say yes, and saying no is as easy as saying yes. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookies link at the bottom of every page. You can also refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings, for every site or just for this one.

How to complain

If you have any concerns about our use of your personal information, you can make a data protection complaint to us by email at ramswood@aol.com, by phone on 01925 821002 or by post to 196 Manchester Road, Rixton, Warrington WA3 6EA.

If you remain unhappy with how we've used your data after raising a complaint with us, you can also complain to the ICO.
